Unconventional thanks to the addition of maple syrup but delicious nonetheless, these sesame ginger beef and rice bowls are an ideal anytime meal. White rice serves as the base for browned ground beef gently simmered in sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, white pepper, and maple syrup for an unexpected and nuanced hint of sweetness. This wild card ingredient helps the mixture reduce to a slightly sticky sauce that coats the beef beautifully.
Directions
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until fully browned.
- In a small bowl, combine maple syrup, liquid aminos or soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and white pepper. Pour mixture over ground beef and let simmer 1-2 minutes until beef is fully coated and sauce has reduced slightly.
- In another small skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Crack eggs into pan, cook until desired doneness (4-5 minutes for sunny-side up with a runny yolk).
- Divide cooked white rice between two bowls. Top with ground beef followed by eggs, then garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
